I know the title of this topic doesn't suggest anything to do with the Cybermen, but the Christmas Day Special of Dr Who which was screened at 6pm on Christmas Day 2008 was a one hour special with the Cybermen in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Next_Doctor
http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/episodes/?episode=s0_05&action=fearfactor
This story started off great, as you believe that David Tennant has met up with a reincarnation of himself as David Morrissey, who also calls himself "The Doctor" and you hear him talk of a sonic screwdriver and a TARDIS, which later turns out to be no more than an inflatable balloon.
There is a fantastic looking Cyber-Leader, and some weird things that behave more like dogs than Cybermen. They talk about a Cyber-King rising, then turn the female villain into their king. From this point on it all goes a bit pear shaped and becomes rather silly, as a giant Cyber machine rises up to destroy the world with the female Cyber-King in control, sitting in what looks like the electric chair
Like all good Dr Who stories, it ends with the Doctor saving the day in a matter of seconds, as he fights from the balloon. Then he calmly goes off for Christmas dinner with his friend, whom we thought to be the new Dr Who; but now it turns out that he is no more than a normal human who absorbed all the information and knowledge of the Doctor in all his previous incarnations.
I enjoyed watching this story, but when I watched the Doctor Who Confidential TV programme later on BBC3, Russel T Davis was describing the story as if it were the best one ever. I disagree, as like all the modern whovian stories, it really went to pieces at the end and became extremely ludicrous to say the least
On a scale of 1 to 10, (10 being perfect), I rate this a rather poor 6 or 7 at best; as it starts off as a ten, but then declines half way through

HMM let me see! i only watched the Xmas special last night! and i was very disappointed with it! those cyber woolie things were a joke! and although it was good to see an invasion from the cybermen in another time period..I could not help thinking the older versions of a cybermen would of been more fitting... the girl Rosita was to modern and it looked like a Charles Dickens panto! RT Davies went off with the fairies again... in fact if we look closer we might see peter pan and all the other traditional Xmas icons..
Bah humbug ...it was crap the Xmas special..I am deffo a dalek fan..and i was very close to EXTERMINATING the TV last night.
I can bear to look at my ROSE and DR clock now.. i only hope the on coming series caters for me in 2009.

What could have and would have been a very good story spoilt by turning into more of a Christmas panto. Sack the writers and employ better ones i say.

I think you mean the Cybershades Margy, as the Cybermats were the little metal things that looked like silverfish in the earlier DR Who episodes. You'll find a nice pic of the Cybershades here http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Cybershade

Can't say I'm suitably impressed with their choice, but the BBC have now named the new doctor. Matt Smith has been revealed as the 11th Doctor in the iconic science fiction series TV Doctor Who.
![[image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/Woodant/who/matt.jpg) Smith, 26, is the youngest ever doctor and a relative unknown.
He has appeared in Alan Bennett's play The History Boys at the National Theatre in London, and alongside Christian Slater in Swimming with Sharks in the West End.
He said he was delighted to take on the role.
He explained: "I've got this wonderful journey in front of me. I've got six months to build this Time Lord and that's such an exciting prospect."
Current Doctor David Tennant announced in October that he was quitting the role, sparking speculation as to who would succeed him.
Names in the frame included David Morrissey, who appeared in the Christmas special, Paterson Joseph and Russell Tovey, while some reports mentioned Martin Clunes and David Walliams.
There was also speculation, which proved inaccurate, that a woman might take the role for the first time.
Writer Russell T Davies said he would like to see an actress such as Catherine Zeta Jones play the role.
This year, there will be four Doctor Who specials featuring Tennant, with Smith taking over in 2010.
Thank Davros that Russel T. Davis didn't get to pick the next one, or we could be looking at Catherine Zeta Jones in the role.

Be interesting to see how the new guy does.
Catherine Zeta Jones as a doctor, eh? I'd watch that.

BAH! and BAH! again. The Next Doctor was simply their worst apperance. I hate Miss Hartigan.. almost strong enough to control the Cybermen? Make new logical Cybermen? It would be pleasing to see the Cyber Controller whoop her butt. The Cyber-King thing is cool though. Cybermen seem not so weak now. The whole infostamp thing I found disappointing. But overall it was decent. 5/10.
Nicholas Briggs, PLEASE change back the Cybermen's voices. There horrible now.
Personally, I don't really like the new choice for the eleventh doctor. But better then a female any day.
